On Foot From Cape Town to Cairo
I went to Africa (27 Feb-23 Nov 200 to start my epic mission, but I was not entirely prepared so I had to abort it in order to start again. So here I am in Barcelona gathering support again. If you gave me money last year and are wondering why Im still here, its because I went and came back. I have been to Ethiopia,Malawi and South Africa. I travelled through Zimbabwe and Mozambique. I was in Ethiopia and Malawi with my now ex girlfriend Laia. She was a huge support for me and I will always be thankful to her. Many other people have been supportive and there is no room to mention them all here. But Im guessing you wanna know why I wanna do this walk. Well first of all its because I wanna spend time in Africa doing stuff that makes sense. There are many people in Africa who are working for the economic improvement of the continent. I want to create a network with them from Cape To Cairo. Some examples are OASIS in Harkeville, FAHAMU, House Of Judah Knysna, Marcus Garvey Camp -all in South Africa. In Malawi there is Chitandizo Aids Support Group, Mchinji Secondary School, Kayesa Inn and others. I have several organisations designed for change which are in the making. Children of Eden is meant to be a movement to declare non-confidence in the present economic system. It incorporates the idea of common wealth derived from land as explained by 19th century journalist Henry George. DCI stands for Direct Counterpart Investment and it is a way of bypassing the major NGOS that spend large perecntages of the money they obtain from you and me on administration costs BEFORE the money even gets to Africa. Once the money does get to Africa, there is yet more that doesnt reach the people in whose name it was raised in the first place. This must change. DCI INVEST will try to mobilise Africans to invest in stockmarkets that sell our raw materials for example Cocoa. Instead of just depending on the price of cocoa we should mobilise to buy stock in Cadburys and in that way make some money off our goods. Its logical. With what these three organisations stand for I know Africa can change. It doesnt have to be me who brings it to pass. But if we are to even imagine a propserous Africa all Africans must be ready to do their part in reversing the braindrain and sacrificing certain comforts for the sake of future generations. This walk is my personal sacrifice of an easy life in exchange for a vision that I hope will benefit many more people than just myself. In Barcelona Im making friends and its all looking good. From alternative squatter communities, BCN Week, Reggae Shack, Crocodile Productions, Immigrant Associations, ACM Guinarrecords, BCNSound, Stylofoam and others. They are all helping me and supporting me in diffrent ways. Obviously I will look for the support of the local government as well. There are several things related to Africa that they should be interested in. So thats me for now..here in my favourite city, enjoying the beach, the women, my friends, basketball, football, writing the odd article for BCN Week and making music. To hear my music please go to www.reverbnation.com/chiozo or www.soundclick.com/chiozo. Take care and thanks for your support. |
